Chapter 2 question 5

The little boy with the birthmark comes forward to speak of the beastie. He describes it like a snake. But before he even describes it and gets the conch, when he asks for it the boys laugh. When he gets it they laugh even harder. In Lord of the Flies it says, “the small boy twisted further into himself.” He is starting to fear, he has to get a lot of confidence to say it and it’s all taken away by the laughter.

The whole group starts to get the theme, of fear. They build a fire that night for not only warmth and light but security against the beastie. The whole group is more afraid and this fear also starts the savagery. The group wants to kill it or get rid of it. The boys don’t want to be threatened by a beast everyday. Golding says that a boy puts on black eye paint from the ashes. This again shows savagery and starts to I think show the kids getting barbaric.
